Your Favorite Products Are Actually Owned By MEGA Corporations
It may come as a surprise to learn that some of the lesser known, health-conscious brands you buy are actually owned by big businesses. What appears to be a small company and conscientious brand is actually a marketing ploy mega corporations like to use to still get your money.
Back To Nature - Kraft
Households want healthier, more conscientious products and Kraft Foods, Inc. wanted some skin in the game. That's why they bought Back to Nature cereals, a 60+ year-old company, for $5 million back in 2007. Under the Back to Nature brand, Kraft now sells cookies, cereals, crackers and dinner lines featuring more natural ingredients.
Annie's Homegrown - General Mills
General Mills purchased Small Planet Foods back in 2000, a decision that turned into fueling three quarters of U.S. retail sales for the mega corporation. Fourteen years later, they repeated that move and bought Annie's, a small, organic food brand that started over a quarter century ago in New England.
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day - SC Johnson
In 2014, consumer products giant S.C. Johnson & Son purchased Caldrea, the makers of an eco-friendly household cleaning product line named Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day. It just so happened that Mrs. Meyer's had already been a wildly successful brand sold in stores across the United States, including Target.
