Vintage Ads That Would Never Fly Today
Take a journey back in time with these vintage adverts, some of which are pretty petrifying. These campaigns showcase just how far society has come in terms of technology and equality among sexes. They're all crazy funny, irreverent, and worthy of ogling over for a few laughs.
Canada Dry Ginger Ale (1930s)
The only thing this vintage advert is promoting is gingivitis, although Canada Dry Ginger Ale would claim otherwise. The offensive advert was part of a campaign that recruited freckled-face, ginger haired children to be part of their "It's Gingervating" series of adverts. The adverts of today are a bit more tasteful.
Greyhound! (1950s)
Back in the fifties, Greyhound buses really romanticized road trips with their cute summer travel campaigns. This fresh advert certainly glamorized bus travel, which everyone knows is really scores of people jam packed like tinned sardines on seats. The adverts did a great job of marketing, given that Greyhound is still successful.
Oil Company (1950s)
Husbands who feel the desire to hose their wife down in the garden, really should buy them resin treated clothes. True to fifties form, this shocking advert from Continental Oil Company sexually objectifies a woman. Spray her with water, and her durable dress will cling perfectly to her figure. Nasty.
